When I received an invitation to a ball, I was feeling a bit dismayed.  I could not find anything to wear!  Which is silly since my wardrobe consists mostly of formal gowns.  I was going to give in and wear an old favorite until I received a group notice.

I had my gown, but I needed a beautiful do to go with it.  My hair collection is pretty dismal since I get caught up in buying clothes.  Fortunately, my friend Atherina Rhapsody updated me on all the gifts I had missed, and I learned that Truth was giving out this beautiful updo to subscribo members.   On Sascha’s blog, they do mention a bun that was made to go with the gown by AVOKI, you can read more about it here.   To feel even more glamorous, I topped the whole look off with my Jaded Cherry make up by Glamorize.  It is probably my favorite makeup store, and they have fab items from 1L to 25L.

I am also wearing a new shape that was created by Yours Truly.   It is my “Holly Day” shape that I had intended to present as a Christmahanakwanzakah present, but sadly I wasn’t able to.  I do plan on giving it out, and until I can make it easier, just send me a message, or (even better) drop a notecard.  It fits most standard sized mesh items, but it is modifiable so you can tweak it to your liking.  🙂   Cinderella has nothing on me now.  Let’s just hope I don’t lose a shoe.

Two hunts that I’ve recently participated in are the Ricielli Halloween Hunt and the JeSyLiLO Find My Pumpkin Event.  Both are store-wide hunts and involve pumpkin hunt objects.  The Ricielli Halloween Hunt is a 15L per object hunt, but the quality of the items makes this a steal.  The JeSyLiLO hunt is free, although you have to be a group member to participate.  Good news is that the group is free to join, and you get to look forward to scoring the beautiful skin gifts that they put out every month.  No matter how you look at it, it’s win win.  JeSyLiLO also has a photo contest involving your finds, and the prize is 5000L and the hunt and contest last until November.   For now, I will be blogging 3 of the Ricielli hunt gifts that I managed to snatch up.  There are 19 gifts, and if you would like to see what you may be getting, or want to pick and choose, then Ricielli has a cheat sheet here.     With autumn here, and winter creeping upon us, I’ve been obsessed with coats and jackets.  It has been my belief that the right jacket can add the perfect touch to an outfit, and Ricielli has provided some beautiful pieces.

Ricielli Mesh Coat- Salmon Snakeskin RHH #1

Ricielli Mesh Coat- Green Wool RHH #13

Ricielli Mesh Jacket- Wine Wool RHH #17

I mentioned my Calico Ingmann Debbie hair, which is also a free hunt gift through the Red Seal Hunt (will have to get on blogging that) in my last post.  My Glamorize swirled black jeans and Night Star eye and lip makeup that were 1L, and my free Mynerva  Sara Pure skin, which is a group gift. (50L join fee).   The lace tank I’m wearing is what I had left over from the Cart Sale last month by Somnia, I’m not sure if they carry them in their store in world, but they do have them in the Marketplace for 200L (boxed set).

Again, my photo was taken in the photo studio located inside Designs by Isaura.

Yay, a freebie update.   I can only manage one, but I have some more ready, and hopefully I’ll have them up before the hunts end.  Autumn is my favorite season.  Not only are there so many amazing colors and smells, but there are so many cute jackets and sweaters on market.  Second Life is not an exception.

I found this cute little cardigan/sweater in DCNY as a group gift.  I paired it up with a cute pair of jeans that I found for 1L at Glamorize, which is where I found my eye shadow, which was 2L I believe.  They have many amazing colors of make up and skins that go up to 25L.  My lip color is a wearable demo/tester from M.O.C.K as I have mentioned in my last post.   The beautiful hair that I’m wearing is actually a hunt prize from the Red Seal Hunt, which is a hunt held on the Rue D’Antibes sim.  The hair is Deb from Calico Ingmann Creations and it comes with a color changing HUD so you can swap out the hair color as much as you want.
My photo was taken at a free DIY photo studio at the Designs by Isaura store.

I forgot to mention that my skin is a free gift from Mynerva

Even Second Life me balks at the task at hand.

Whenever there is a hunt, I tend to go a little crazy and get so focused on snatching up the gifts that I tend to forget to stop and actually sort through them.  Sometimes I get distracted by free gifts or the group updates informing me of some sale or freebie.  Now my entire inventory is filled with past gifts that I never got around to opening.   I have decided to take a hiatus, not that I update very often anyway, to actually open and organize all of my items.   I have no idea how long it will take since my First Life is very hectic and my time on Second Life tends to be very brief.   It will take awhile since I have hunt gifts from all the way back in December that I never even bothered to sort.   All in all, it is a very big mess in my inventory and I have to go through it all.  On top of that, I’m going to have to sort through the stuff that I had since ’09 to see what I keep and what will go.  Too bad there are no yard sales in the virtual world.*  I hope to have a new system figured out as well.

*Disclaimer:  I am fully aware of the copyright reasons behind why we don’t resell items of another designer.  I am also aware that it is pretty shady to charge for an item that you get free.   The disclaimer is targeted to those who may not get that I was joking and to save them the time they would take to explain it.

I was having a lag-tastic day at the Vintage Fair (in part because of computer issues), so I could only shop for a few minutes before I had to log off and repeat the process.   I did finally manage to score a few bits to share.  The lovely dress I’m wearing is the Fishtail Gown by 1-800-BETTIE’s Vintage Clothing, and it only cost me 10L.  The store has quite a few lovely outfits for 10L, including the one I’m wearing below.

Day Suit in blue with MESH Black Spectator Pumps

NV Corsetry had provided a beautiful Black and White Tartan MESH Corset as a free gift for the event.

I paired it with a v-neck shirt that was a old Kennedy’s group gift for Womenstuff,  a pair of black MESH skinny jeans from Multiple Personality Designs that were 1L, and my favorite Leopard print stiletto shoes from StarChild (free group gift).

I won’t be as wordy in this post, though I know people don’t come here to read my rambling.  I haven’t been updating due to computer issues and real life business that had to come before my Second Life.   I pretty much managed to steal some time to hang out in my favorite virtual world and score this wonderful freebie.  You’ll find the credit/prices/description if you click on the pictures.  They should link you to the flickr page and you’ll find everything in the description.  Yes, I own up to laziness.

NOTE: There is a 150L fee to join the Vinyl Cafe group.

Hello, Bris here and I just want to welcome you to Running Free with Bris.

I will own up to being a bit of a cheapskate in both Real Life and Second Life. If I can get it for cheap or, better yet, free then I’m one happy camper.  Sadly, when I first started out in SL, it was hard to find anything of decent quality that was in my limited L$ or for free.  It is especially hard for me to find something of good quality that wasn’t just plain trashy.  I strive for class, after all.

Recently, I have set myself on a mission.  That mission was to create an entire wardrobe of free or nearly free clothing.  My spending limit was set to at most 10 L$.  Did I expect it to be easy?  No, I had some pretty realistic expectations of what I was searching for.  I expected to give up before I could even get started.  As it turns out, it was actually easier than I thought.  Sure, it was still pretty challenging, but not impossible.

The first thing I did was that I checked my favorite stores.  Sometimes they have special promos, especially if you are a member of their group.  I absolutely love the stores that have monthly group gifts.  Sascha’s Designs is one example, and I will tell you more about her designs as I blog about my adventures in frugality.

Another thing I did was to get to know the Marketplace.  In the beginning of my mission, it was where I acquired nearly all of my finds.  Go to the left side, choose your category and your price range.  They even have a 0L$-10L$  category, which made my life so much simpler.  It was a little hard for me to find what I was looking for, but you can find a lot of great things in the SL Marketplace for free or cheap.

Lastly, I had discovered hunts.  That was my best discovery in SL.  Hunts are probably the largest source of all my free stuff.  I can’t begin to start on how much I love hunts.  I had even found an awesome little blog called SL Hunts.  They inform you of upcoming hunts that will be happening throughout Second Life.  Also, while I did say most of my free stuff comes from hunts, not all hunt objects are free.  Fortunately, all the non-free ones only cost 1L$ for each gift, so they still fit in with my 0-10 limit.

What I hope to do with this blog is to not only showcase my finds, or to tell you how to get them, but also to introduce all the amazing designers that create them.  Not many are willing to provide such great pieces for so little money, so I’m much more appreciative of those who do.
